Inspired by the enchanting world of "Alice in Wonderland," the Vicky in Wonderland design by Changching Chien is a unique and innovative approach to interior design. The project focuses on the artistic conception of lighting, using embedded lamps to enhance the space's aesthetic style and blend natural and artificial light sources. By reducing the traditional direct illumination, the design creates an implicit and flexible atmosphere.
What sets Vicky in Wonderland apart is its commitment to storytelling. The design follows the theme of "Alice in Wonderland," creating a space that evokes a childlike dream and invites viewers to roam and explore. The use of concise design techniques allows for continuous and open visual lines, omitting unnecessary elements and excessive polishing.
The realization of the design is achieved through various techniques. Irregular plane mirrors, creative patterns with lively colors, and strategically placed hanging TV screens create a staggered and harmonious overlapping effect. The overall space features low saturation, with playful decorations in the functional areas, enhancing flexibility and visual diversity.
The Vicky in Wonderland project covers an area of 410 square meters and is located in Dibao, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, China. It was completed between June 2021 and March 2022.
Changching Chien's research for this design focused on creating a smooth and round structural modeling that evokes a sense of interest and a secret world. The integration of artistic elements with light and shadow breaks away from shallow decorative functions and pushes the boundaries of visual imagination.
One of the main challenges faced during the design process was the distribution of columns and the introduction of outdoor trails into the interior. The designer successfully overcame this challenge by incorporating creative geometric sewage pipes, adding an exquisite artistic touch to the space.
Vicky in Wonderland breaks away from traditional indoor space layouts by blurring the boundaries between blocks and creating a continuous moving line effect. This dynamic transition between scenes adds a sense of movement and freedom to the space.
